App Development

Custom Shopify apps.

Custom app development for the business logic the platform doesn't cover off-the-shelf — App Bridge, Polaris, GraphQL Admin API, and Functions.

Apps built and maintained by Execution Space, a Shopify Partner based in Toronto.

What's included

How we do it

From "the platform can't do that" to shipped.

Custom app work starts with a hard question: does this really need an app? Most of the time a Function, a metafield model, or a better integration gets there faster and costs less to own. When it genuinely needs one, this is the path.

  1. Interrogate the requirement

We map what the platform already does natively — Functions, metaobjects, Flow, native B2B — before proposing a build. The cheapest app is the one you don't need.

  2. Model the data first

Where the truth lives, what syncs, what's derived. Get this wrong and every screen built on top of it inherits the problem.

  3. Build on the platform's grain

App Bridge and Polaris so it feels like Shopify admin, GraphQL Admin API for the data layer, Functions for logic at checkout. Merchants shouldn't have to learn a second interface.

  4. Instrument, then hand over

Logging, error surfacing, and a runbook — so your team can answer "is it working?" without calling us. Documented, versioned, and supportable by someone who isn't us.

FAQ

Questions we get.

Private app or public App Store app?

Depends on whether the logic is yours alone or a product. Private (custom) apps are faster to build and carry no review cycle; public apps need App Store review, billing, and a support surface. We'll tell you plainly which one your case is.

Can Shopify Functions do this instead?

Often, yes — discounts, shipping, payment customisations, and validation now run as Functions at checkout, no app UI required. It's cheaper, faster, and doesn't add an admin surface to maintain. We check this first.

Who owns and maintains the app afterwards?

You do. Code lives in your repo, the runbook is documented, and it's built so another developer can pick it up. We'll support it on a retainer if you'd rather we did — but that's a choice, not a lock-in.

Do you work with our existing developers?

Yes — embedded is how we work by default. Your standups, your tools, your repo, reporting into your leadership.
